Newspaper Cut and Match
|
This activity requires your child to do some independent, interpretive thinking. It also encourages creativity.
Step 1:
Cut out some articles with headlines from an old newspaper. Separate the headlines from the articles, creating two groups.
Step 2:
Have your child read each article (without the headline) and describe the Who, What, Where, When, and How of the situation. This helps build great study skills!
Step 3:
Have your child write up a different headline for each article.
Step 4:
Finally, present the group of original headlines cut from the articles and have your child match up the correct headline with the correct article. Also ask him or her to compare the original headline with the one she wrote.
