Standards Based Report Cards

The Clark County School District Elementary Report Card was developed to report student progress toward meeting the Nevada Content Standards. These standards are used by classroom teachers for planning and delivering instruction as well as monitoring student learning and progress.

The Clark County School District Elementary Report Card is issued to parents three times a year at the end of each trimester. Dates for this school year are listed below and on the C.C.S.D. " Student Progress Report Attendance Calendar" document.

Standards Based Report Card
Which Standards Are On the Report Card?

Each semester, the Benchmark standards for reading, writing and math change. Only the standards in the current grading period are reflected on the report card. All assignments must be attached to at least one current standards (or as many as ten) when being entered into Easy Grade Pro.

According to CCSD, the SBRC (Standards Based Report Card) "includes grade level Power Standards for reading, writing, and math. Power Standards are standards that have been identified as essential learning standards. The standards are placed in the gradebook according to the trimester benchmark in which proficiency is measured. For example, a standard in which proficiency is measured during the 2nd trimester will appear in the 2nd trimester of the gradebook and thus reported on the 2nd trimester report card."

Documents showing how the new Nevada state math Standards bridge to the old Standards were created by CCSD.

All teachers in the Clark County School District use Easy Grade Pro to record grades and produce report cards. New features were added to the software in the fall of 2007. Screenshots and step by step help for using Easy Grade Pro are available on line. For instructions about how to print the Kindergarten Essential Skills Table are also available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: What happened to Problem Solving, Math Communication, and Math Connection?

Answer: Problem solving, Math Communication, and Math Connection were removed from the standards on purpose. They are all embedded in all the other standards so they are no longer separate categories and are not graded separately.

Question: The math standards in my gradebook do not match my copy of the Power Standards and Benchmarks. Why?

Answer: The SBRC and gradebook contain the new math Power Standards and Benchmarks that were released August 2007.

Question: Does my gradebook include all of the skills and concepts that I teach?

Answer: The gradebook does not include all of the individual skills and concepts taught. Rather than report student proficiency levels on all standards and CEF objectives to parents, the SBRC and gradebook specifically focus on Power Standards. However, grades based on non-Power Standard items can be included in the gradebook and report card process.

Assignments and assessments targeting CEF objectives and standards not labeled as Power Standards, can be added to the gradebook and attached to the appropriate content standard (for example: Number - Number Sense – Computation, Measurement, Data Analysis, etc.) while creating the gradebook assignment. The field normally used to select standard indicators would be left blank. Adding an assignment in this way, allows the assignment to be counted toward the report card grade.

Question: Can I use the gradebook to record performance based on standards and objectives below grade level? Can I use the gradebook to record performance on assignments intended for practice of a skill prior to measuring proficiency of a skill?

Answer: These two types of assignments may be added to the gradebook, BUT should be labeled “not for grade” in the “special status” field of the assignment record. This will create a record of the assignment and allow it to be reported informally on student progress reports. However, the assignment will not be counted towards the final report card grade.
