Question: What happened to Problem Solving, Math Communication, and Math Connection?
Answer: Problem solving, Math Communication, and Math Connection were removed from the standards on purpose. They are all embedded in all the other standards so they are no longer separate categories and are not graded separately.
Question: The math standards in my gradebook do not match my copy of the Power Standards and
Benchmarks. Why?
Answer: The SBRC and gradebook contain the new math Power Standards and Benchmarks that were
released August 2007.
Question: Does my gradebook include all of the skills and concepts that I teach?
Answer: The gradebook does not include all of the individual skills and concepts taught. Rather than report
student proficiency levels on all standards and CEF objectives to parents, the SBRC and gradebook
specifically focus on Power Standards. However, grades based on non-Power Standard items can be
included in the gradebook and report card process.
Assignments and assessments targeting CEF
objectives and standards not labeled as Power Standards, can be added to the gradebook and
attached to the appropriate content standard (for example: Number - Number Sense – Computation,
Measurement, Data Analysis, etc.) while creating the gradebook assignment. The field normally
used to select standard indicators would be left blank. Adding an assignment in this way, allows the
assignment to be counted toward the report card grade.
Question: Can I use the gradebook to record performance based on standards and objectives below grade
level? Can I use the gradebook to record performance on assignments intended for practice of a
skill prior to measuring proficiency of a skill?
Answer: These two types of assignments may be added to the gradebook, BUT should be labeled “not for
grade” in the “special status” field of the assignment record. This will create a record of the
assignment and allow it to be reported informally on student progress reports. However, the
assignment will not be counted towards the final report card grade.
